Two Needle Mittens-Two, Needle, Mittens,
Two Needle Mittens

Small (Med) (Large) One strand worsted weight only

M1 (make 1) an increase worked by lifting the horizontal thread lying between the needles and placing it onto the left needle. Work this new stitch through the back loop.

Ssk (slip, slip knit) slip the next two stitches as if to knit, one at a time, from the tip of the left needle to the tip of the right needle; insert the left needle into the fronts of these 2 stitches from the left and knit them together from this position to decrease one stitch.

With smaller needles, cast on 29 (35) (41) stitches.

Work in ribbing of K1, P1 across for first row, P1, K1 for second row for 12 (18) (18) rows.

Change to larger needles and begin with a purl row; work in Stockinette stitch for 5 (7) (9) rows.

 

Thumb Gusset:

Row 1 (Right side) K14 (17) (20), place marker, M1, K1, M1, place marker, K to end.

Row 2 and all Wrong side rows: Purl

Row 3: K to marker, slip marker, M1, K to last stitch before 2nd marker, M1, slip marker, K to end. Rep rows 2 and 3 until there are 11 (13) (15) stitches between markers.

Palm (Right side)

Next Row:

K14 (17) (20) removing markers, slip 11 (13) (15) stitches to a stitch holder, k 14 (17) (20). Continue in stockinette stitch until piece measures about 6 (9) (10) inches from beginning. End with a wrong side row and place marker between two center stitches

Top shaping:

Row 1: (Right side) Ssk, knit to 2 stitches before marker, K2 tog, slip marker, Ssk, K to last 2 stitches, K2 tog

Row 2: Purl

Repeat last 2 rows 2 (3) (4) times-16 (18) (20) stitches

Next row: K 2 together across 8 (9) (10) stitches

Next Row: Purl

Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Using yarn needle and beginning with last stitch on needle, pull tail through the remaining stitches; gather together and fasten off.

Thumb

With right side facing, return stitches from holder to larger needles. Join yarn and knit across.

Next row: P 4 (5) (6), P2 tog, P5 (6) (7)

Work 2 (4) (6) more rows in stockinette stitch.

Next row: K 2 together across.

Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Using yarn needle and beginning with last stitch on needle, pull tail through remaining stitches, gather together and fasten off.

Finishing

Seam hand. With yarn tail, seam thumb and opening below thumb.

Weave in ends.
